Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering: Second Commission Report

Although this is more the province of my colleague and ex-pupil Alex Khan than it is mine as he covers the topic in chambers (he is, incidentally, also the biotech correspondence for the EIPR), I notice that the Patent Office has taken advantage of the publication of the EC Commission’s second report on the legal protection of biotechnological inventions pursuant to art 16 (c) of Directive 98/44/EC (the Biotech Directive) to publish a new note on biotechnological inventions and a commentary on the report. The report does not actually seem to have said very much save that it was commissioning more research into DNA patenting and stem cell patenting.

About Jane Lambert

I am a barrister specializing in intellectual property, technology, media and entertainment and competition law. I specialize in helping SME (small and medium enterprises) protect and exploit their investment in brands, design, technology and the arts. SME require intellectual property (legal protection for their intellectual assets) at least as much as big business but their limited means restrict the way they can use it. Looking after such clients wisely requires skills and knowledge which have taken me years to learn.
