Web 2.0 is a phrase coined by Tim O’Reilly in his article “What is Web 2.0” published on 30 Sept 2005. Essentially it means the use of the web as a platform for applications ranging from word processing and spreadsheets on Google docs to social networking on Facebook and twitter.
Web 2.0 will give rise to a number of legal questions such as:
- Who should be entitled to user-generated content?
- Who should be liable for harm resulting from user-generated content?
- Should states be entitled to restrict user-generated content?
- Who should determine disputes resulting from user-generated content?
These and other issues were discussed by Jane Lambert in her presentation to BarCamp Bradford in Nov 2009 entitled “Legal Issues of Web 2.0”.
